PORTLAND, Ore. — Parents of an Oregon girl who slipped and fractured her back while attempting to walk into school on a snowy day have filed a $1.7 million lawsuit against the Lake Oswego School District.
The Oregonian/OregonLive reports that Jonathan and Marisa Rockwood accuse the school district of failing to shovel or de-ice the walkway leading up to the school on Jan. 5, 2016. Their daughter, Taylor Rockwood, fractured her L-1 vertebra. The lawsuit states that Taylor Rockwood still suffers from shooting pain down her legs and chronic back pain two years later.
The suit claims that the girl’s injuries were exacerbated when school officials moved her into a building instead of waiting for medical personnel.
District spokeswoman Christine Moses declined to comment for the district, citing the pending litigation.
