Brian’s Picks – January 11

1) North Carolina-based Bright Star Touring Theatre has been a literal bright star for wrapping its education within strong, entertaining productions in Columbus the past few years, spotlighting everything from bullying to racism. The troupe and the Columbus Area Arts Council bring the 45-minute show, “Struggle For Freedom,” to the city for a Martin Luther King Day presentation at 2 p.m. Monday at The Commons, 300 Washington St. in downtown Columbus. The drama highlights the work of King and other civil rights leaders such as Rosa Parks. Information: artsincolumbus.org.

2) The Foundation For Youth’s annual Princess Ball attracted a record 800 people last year. This year’s event is 4:30 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the foundation at 405 Hope Ave. in Columbus. Dads, stepdads, uncles, older brothers or other role models bring girls ages 3 and older to a special night of dancing and games. Cost: $25 per couple (and $15 for each additional princess).
