Learn about therapy dogs at the library

Doug Bell, who works in facilities management at Columbus Regional Hospital, will share his experiences working with therapy dogs at a 7 p.m. session Wednesday at the Bartholomew County Public Library Red Room.

Bell plans to bring three dogs, two of which are working as therapy dogs and one that is in training. He plans to talk about his therapy dog work with Bonnie, a collie rescue dog who made more than 630 visits to CRH patients, local nursing homes and other facilities beginning in 2009 until her retirement in 2016.

Bonnie died in January 2017 and Bell is now working with therapy dog Einstein, a 12-year-old goldendoodle, for hospital visits.

He also will talk about what it takes to become a therapy dog team, places where therapy dogs may visit and will talk about some of his favorite encounters with the therapy dogs.
