CPD officer commended for helping family

A Columbus Police officer received a letter of commendation Tuesday from Chief Jon Rohde for his help in assisting a Columbus family.

Officer Frank Dickman, a seven-year member of the department, was sent to a report of a 2-year-old child wandering around a Columbus apartment complex unsupervised. When speaking with the child’s mother, Dickman learned she was intending to purchase door alarms but was unable to do so until she received a paycheck.

A supervisor later learned Dickman purchased the door alarms and delivered them to the family.

In the commendation letter, Rohde said not only did Dickman take it upon himself to make the child safe, but did so without asking for any recognition and spent his own money to do so.
