City plans open house to review flood insurance rate maps for Haw Creek

An open house is planned Jan. 30 to allow local residents to review preliminary flood insurance rate maps which have proposed changes to floodplain boundaries and base flood elevations along Haw Creek in Columbus.

The event will be from 4 to 7 p.m. at Donner Center, 739 22nd St., hosted by the City of Columbus and Bartholomew County Planning Department along with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Division of Water.

The changes are being proposed by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency, according to a news release from the planning department. The proposed maps will replace the current maps for the creek adopted on Dec. 9, 2014.
