Two facing theft charges

Bartholomew County Sheriff’s deputies arrested two people after responding to a report of a possibly impaired driver.

Deputy Teancum Clark located the vehicle at 2 a.m. Wednesday at 11940 U.S. 31 North in Edinburgh and determined it had been reported stolen from Fort Wayne, deputies said.

The driver, Cody Slaughter, 25, of Michigan City, was driving with a suspended license and was also believed to be operating the vehicle while intoxicated, deputies said.

Slaughter and his passenger, Christopher Jackey, 35, of Salem, were arrested and taken to the Bartholomew County Jail, deputies said.

Slaughter was arrested on preliminary charges of theft and operating a vehicle while intoxicated, deputies said. He was being held in the Bartholomew County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bond, jail officials said.

Jackey was arrested on a preliminary charge of theft and was being held in the jail in lieu of $7,500 bond, jail officials said.
