DRY PRONG, La. — A Louisiana police officer died when his pickup truck ran off a highway, across the median and two lanes of opposing traffic, and hit a tree.

Louisiana State Police say investigators do not think road conditions, speed, or impairment was a factor in the wreck that killed 53-year-old Travis Lowe of Deville (duh-VIL).

Alexandria Police said in a Facebook post that Lowe was a 23-year veteran in that department, and is survived by his mother, son and daughter.

State Police say in a news release that Lowe’s 2017 GMC pickup truck was traveling south when it left U.S. 167 near Dry Prong shortly before 6 p.m. Wednesday.
