Semi, cars tangle on I-65 south, slowing traffic

No injuries were reported in a multi-vehicle accident involving a semi in the southbound lanes of Interstate 65 south of Columbus.

The interstate’s right lane at the 58-mile marker was closed from about 8 to 10:45 a.m. Thursday after a semi and two passenger cars collided, with the semi going off into the ditch on the southbound side of the interstate, Indiana State Police said. The accident site is about 10 miles south of the main Columbus exit on the interstate.

Crews kept one lane open at the accident scene throughout Thursday morning and called in the Indiana Department of Transportation to remove snow and ice that were splattered on the roadway after the vehicles collided, state police said.

Police advised motorists that traffic would be slow from the Interstate 65 mile marker 58 to mile marker 64 for a few hours after both lanes reopened Thursday morning.
