‘Columbus Present’ panel discussion

The second event in a free lecture series at Ivy Tech Community College Columbus will focus on “Columbus Present.”

The event will be 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Columbus Learning Center auditorium, 4555 Central Ave.

Panelists will be Columbus Mayor Jim Lienhoop; Columbus Municipal Airport Director Bryan Payne; Kathy Oren, executive director of the Community Education Coalition; and Rick Scalf and LaTosha Lafferty, board members of Black Lives Matter of Columbus.

Desserts will be provided by Lucabe Coffee Co., and souvenirs from the Columbus Visitors Center will be on display.

The series, sponsored by the University Library of Columbus and Ivy Tech Phi Theta Kappa honor society, is focusing on the community’s past, present and future. The Columbus “past” event was conducted in November, and the “future” session will be March 29.

At each session, local residents and area experts discuss aspects of Columbus, including design, history, social movements, government, education, infrastructure, agriculture and the notable characters who helped shape the city.
