Hauser surprises Morristown in Mid-Hoosier girls hoops thriller

HOPE — Hauser threw a loop into the Mid-Hoosier Conference girls basketball race Thursday night with a 57-56 upset of Morristown, handing the Yellow Jackets their first conference loss.

The Jets trailed 29-24 at halftime but rallied to take a 55-54 lead with 25 seconds left in the game. The Yellow Jackets scored with 18 seconds remaining to take the lead, but Grace Hasler took an inbounds pass from Bree Hadley at midcourt, drove and banked in a shot with 11 seconds left.

Morristown had one final chance but missed a shot with 3 seconds remaining, and Hadley pulled down the rebound to preserve the win.

Tessa Sims led the Jets (5-15, 3-2) with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Sarah Tedder added eight points and seven rebounds, and Hasler finished with six points and four assists. Those three were honored on senior night, along with Lauryn Starnes.

“We played our best game of the year,” Hauser coach Brad Hamilton said. “Our seniors just refused to lose. Our kids just showed a lot of heart.”
