Services and studies

First Baptist — The Rev. Dan Cash will deliver the message, “God in All Things,” with Scripture from Romans 8:26-30, at the 9:30 a.m. service Sunday at the church, 3300 Fairlawn Drive. The service will be streamed live at sundaystreams.com/go/fbccolumbus or fbccolumbus.org/WP/sermons.

The Prayer Shawl Ministry will meet at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church. The Abigail Circle of American Baptist Women will meet at 7 p.m. later that evening.

The Men of Faith will meet at 6:15 a.m. Friday in the private dining room at Four Seasons Retirement Center, 1901 Taylor Road, for breakfast and Bible study. All men of the church and community are welcome.

First Lutheran — During the 8:45 a.m. Classic and 11:15 a.m. Casual services Sunday at the church, 3600 25th St., Pastor Larry Isbell will focus on Scripture from Jonah 3:1-5, 10; 1 Corinthians 7:29-31; and Mark 1:14-20.

Flintwood Wesleyan — Amplify (nontraditional) at 9 and The Well (traditional) at 11 a.m. will both be led Sunday by Pastor Wes Jones in the main sanctuary of the church, 5300 E. 25th St. The Prayer Team will meet at 8 a.m. and Sunday school classes will meet at 10 a.m. in their regular rooms. Adult choir practice will take place at 5 p.m. followed by the evening service at 6 p.m.

The women’s study group, Connections, meets at 10 a.m. the second and fourth Monday of each month upstairs in Curry Hall.

On Wednesday, The Prayer Team will meet at 6:15 p.m., the youth group will meet at 6:30 p.m. and adult Bible study will meet at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary.

St. Paul Lutheran — The church will celebrate National Lutheran Schools Week at the 8 and 10:45 a.m. services Sunday at the church, 6045 E. State St. The theme of Pastor Doug Bauman’s sermon will be “It’s Still All About Jesus,” based on Mark 1:14-20. The Early Childhood Ministry students will sing at the 10:45 a.m. service, which will be followed by a barbecue baked potato bonanza luncheon in the Fellowship Room. All are welcome.

North Christian (Disciples of Christ) — The Rev. Tonja M. Gerardy along with director of music Nikolai Peek will lead the 10:30 a.m. worship service Sunday in the sanctuary of the church, 850 Tipton Lane. A nursery for preschool children, staffed by a professional caregiver, will be available during the service.

Old Union Church of Christ — Pastor Kirby Rupp will deliver the message, “Every End Leads to New Beginnings!,” during the 10 a.m. service Sunday at the church, 12703 N. County Road 50W, Edinburgh. Scripture will include Jonah 3:1-5, 10; 1 Corinthians 7:29-31; and Mark 1:14-20. Sunday school will convene at 9 a.m. with fellowship to begin at 9:40 a.m.

Wednesday Bible study will resume at 6 p.m. on Jan. 24.

Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Columbus — The Rev. Nic Cable will deliver the message, “The Practice of Courageous Action,” during the 10 a.m. service Sunday at the church, 7850 W. Goeller Blvd.

First Presbyterian — Worship begins at 9:30 a.m. Sunday at the church, 512 Seventh St., with the sermon “Nearer than You Think.” Infant and toddler care will be available from 9:15 to 11 a.m.

The men’s and women’s support groups meet at 7 a.m. Fridays. A second men’s support group meets at 6:15 a.m. each Monday.

People in need of a meal are invited to the Hot Meals program offered at 5 p.m. Friday, with entrance through the glass doors on Franklin.

Petersville United Methodist — The Rev. Stormy Scherer-Berry will deliver the message, “Beyond Belief,” during the 9 a.m. worship service Sunday at the church, 2781 N. County Road 500E, Petersville. Liturgist Sandy Williams will share Scripture from 1 Samuel 3:1-10 and John 1:43-51. Teresa Covert will present the children’s message. A time of fellowship will follow the service.

The walking group meets at 9 a.m. Monday and Wednesday mornings at FairOaks Mall, 2380 25th St.

Bible study classes will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the homes of Chris Kimerling and Larry and Connie Nolting. The Sit ‘N’ Stitch group will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday night, also at the Nolting home.

Choir practice will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday under the direction of Kathy Bush. The Prayer Group will meet at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church with Barb Hedrick as leader.

Grace Lutheran — The message, “When Jesus is First, Everything Else is Second,” based on the call of disciples in Mark 1:14-20, will be delivered during the 8 and 10:30 a.m. worship services Sunday at the church, 3201 Central Ave. Sunday school for all ages will begin at 9:25 a.m.

The ALPHA class will continue with the topic, “Why Did Jesus Die?,” after a light supper at 6 p.m. Tuesday. Video and small-group discussion will follow. The Searching Scripture class, an introduction to Lutheran theology, will continue with a study of the Ten Commandments. Child care will be available.

Events

South Central Indiana Christian Men’s Fellowship — Next meeting is Tuesday at Jennings Church of Christ, 1200 N. Madison Ave. in North Vernon. Dinner starts at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting follows at 7. The menu includes chili and crackers, hot dogs, chili dogs, desserts and drinks. The speaker will be Will Smith, pastor of Coffee Creek Christian Church in Jennings County. The theme is gather together, and the theme song is “We gather together.” Information: 343-0179.

Flintwood Wesleyan — GLOW, God Lights Our World, will begin at 6:15 p.m. with supper at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church, 5300 E. 25th St.

A chili supper and tech walk will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. Feb. 3 in the church gym and feature electronic prizes. The event is a fundraiser for the church’s ongoing building projects.

Grace Lutheran — The International Friendship Center will sponsor a pie-making workshop from 9 a.m. to noon Jan. 27 at the church, 3201 Central Ave. The class will be led by Harriet Armstrong, Purdue Extension Health and Human Sciences coordinator. Register by Jan. 25.
