Man, 40, found dead in northern Bartholomew County

COLUMBUS, Indiana — Indiana State Police Detectives are conducting a death investigation in northern Bartholomew County, police said.

Dale Pattingill, 40, was found unresponsive about 6:30 a.m. Sunday at 5670 East County Road 700 North, a rural Columbus residence south of St. Louis Crossing, said Indiana State Police spokesman Sgt. Stephen Wheeles.

Deputies from the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department and crews from the Columbus Regional Hospital Emergency Medical Services and Clifford Volunteer Fire Department responded to the call, according to Bartholomew County 911 records.

Pattingill was pronounced dead at the scene by the Bartholomew County Coroner’s Office.

Deputies requested that state troopers take over the investigation when they realized the victim was related to two sheriff’s department employees, Sheriff Matt Myers said.

The investigation is ongoing to determine a cause of death, with toxicology results pending, Wheeles said.

Foul play is not suspected, he said.
