CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Blowing and drifting snow forced the closure Monday of a 70-mile stretch of Interstate 25 in southeast Wyoming.

The Wyoming Department of Transportation shut down both lanes between Wheatland and Cheyenne late Monday morning and for most of the afternoon.

The highway was expected to reopen sometime later Monday.

A large area of Wyoming was hit by a snowstorm over the weekend. The snow had ended by Monday, but strong winds made for hazardous and slick travel conditions in many areas.
