Pair arrested on drug charges after stop; man has pending warrant

Bartholomew County Sheriff’s deputies arrested two people after a weekend traffic stop.

Deputy Sgt. Kris Weisner saw a suspicious vehicle in a parking lot about 7 p.m. Saturday, but the vehicle drove away, deputies said.

After checking the license, Weisner found that the registered owner of the vehicle — Richard Benedict, 33, of Danville — had a pending out-of-state warrant for his arrest, deputies said.

Weisner stopped the vehicle at 10080 U.S. 31 North and talked with Benedict and his passenger, identified as Rebecca Lynn Fast, 34, of Plainfield, deputies said.

After Weisner detected an odor of marijuana, K9 Bolt checked the vehicle and alerted to narcotics inside, deputies said. Weisner located crystal methamphetamine, opiates, syringes, marijuana, paraphernalia and unprescribed prescription medication, deputies said.

Fast was arrested on charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia, deputies said. She is being held in the Bartholomew County Jail in lieu of $121,000 bond, jail officials said.

Benedict was arrested on a preliminary charge of possession of a legend drug and is being held in the Bartholomew County Jail in lieu of $57,500 bond, jail officials said.
