ANTIOCH, Calif. — The mother of a Northern California man charged with killing two sisters when he crashed a stolen pickup truck into their vehicle says the suspect is related to the young victims.

Noe Saucedo’s mother, Martina Longoria, told reporters outside of court that her 23-year-old son and the dead girls are second cousins. She asked for forgiveness from the family of 4-year-old Lenexy Cardoza and her 2-year-old sister Camila Cardoza.

Officials say Saucedo was driving a stolen pickup truck on an Antioch highway last week when a deputy spotted it and began following. Saucedo allegedly left the highway, sped through a light and collided with the girls’ pickup. The girls’ mother was injured.

Prosecutors on Monday charged Saucedo with murder. It was not immediately clear if he has an attorney.
