Bartholomew County Sheriff deputies arrested a man accused of taking scrap metal after a local business owner said it was stolen from his business.
Deputy Adam Warner was on a school zone patrol at Taylorsville Elementary School at 8 a.m. Monday when a business owner approached him about the theft, deputies said.
The victim said the scrap metal had been stacked near a fence at his business and someone had photographed a vehicle being loaded with the material, including a photo of the license plate, deputies said.
Columbus Police Department Sgt. Richard Howell and Officer Ben Quesenbery found the suspect vehicle at Kroot’s in Columbus just as it pulled into the facility, deputies said. Warner also went to Kroot’s, where he saw the truck filled with scrap metal.
The driver of the truck was identified as Isaac Spiehler, 49, 142 Oak St., Columbus, who was taken to the Bartholomew County jail on a preliminary charge of theft.
The items were identified and returned to the owner, deputies said.
Spiehler was later released from the Bartholomew County Jail, deputies said.
