PUEBLO, Colo. — Police in Pueblo say a man shot and killed after a chase on Monday ran from his disabled SUV and fired multiple shots at them.

Police say officers chased 35-year-old Joe Delira-Alires of Pueblo for nearing a block while firing back. No officers were shot.

The Pueblo Chieftain reports that police say the chase started after officers were called by an “ex” who reported that Delira-Alires was outside firing gunshots into the air. Police say he fled but they were eventually able to stop his vehicle.

The 10th Judicial District Critical Incident Team, comprised of members of the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, the Colorado State Patrol and Pueblo police, is investigating.

Pueblo Police Capt. Kenny Rider says eight officers are on leave during that investigation.
