New event on tap for Chamber

A new, casual networking series offered by the Columbus Area Chamber of Commerce will allow members of the chamber and the Columbus Young Professionals organization to interact with community leaders while enjoying a beer.

Columbus Mayor Jim Lienhoop is on tap for the first Leaders & Lagers program, scheduled to speak from 5 to 7 p.m. Feb. 15 at the Columbus Area Visitors Center, 506 Fifth St.

The events are designed to allow chamber and Columbus Young Professionals members to hear about different developments in Columbus from leaders of non-profit organizations and other groups while enjoying beer from local breweries, said Liz Worthington, the chamber’s director of marketing and programs.

The series is open to any employee of a Columbus chamber-member business, which includes about 30,000 people, said Cindy Frey, president of the chamber.

The series also will allow attendees to share their impressions about discussion topics and to make suggestions on what they would like to see in the city, she said.

Lienhoop is expected to address projects occurring in the city such as the Columbus Riverfront, Frey said.

There is no charge to attend the series, except for paying for your own drinks.

Leaders & Lagers is similar to but not modeled after last year’s Exhibit Columbus’ Drinking about Design program, Frey said.

Like many other chamber of commerce program, it also provides a platform for networking while socializing, she said.

The second Leaders & Lagers program, scheduled for May 17, will feature Karen Niverson, executive director of the Columbus Area Visitors Center.
