UPPER MARLBORO, Md. — Prosecutors in Maryland say a corrections officer has been indicted for assaulting an inmate last December.

Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Angela Alsobrooks says in a Thursday statement that a grand jury returned an indictment for County Department of Corrections Officer Lucky Oligie. He was indicted on charges of second-degree assault and two counts of misconduct in office.

The statement says surveillance video captured Oligie striking an inmate, knocking him to the ground and continually assaulting him. Oligie was put on administrative leave following an internal review by the department.

Oligie has been issued a summons and a date for his initial court appearance is pending.

The Washington Post could not reach Oligie for comment. It is unclear if he has a lawyer.
