BUFORD, Ga. — Police say an officer fatally shot an armed man outside of a gas station in suburban Atlanta.

Gwinnett County police Cpl. Michele Pihera told news outlets that officers arrived early Thursday at a Shell gas station where the man was armed with a firearm in his waistband. Officers ordered the man to drop his weapon, but he pulled out the gun and raised it at them.

Pihera says one of the officers fired his weapon, hitting the man. He died from his injuries in the shooting.

No officers were injured.

The name of the man has not been released. The race of the officer and suspect weren’t immediately available.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating the incident.
