HACKENSACK, N.J. — Jurors have acquitted a man of murder and other charges but couldn’t reach a verdict on another count in the shooting death of a 14-year-old girl in New Jersey.

NorthJersey.com reports that jurors acquitted 25-year-old Tyheem Mayfield on Friday of murder, attempted murder, and conspiracy in the September 2014 death of Nazerah Bugg and the wounding of her friend. The panel couldn’t reach agreement on a charge of aggravated manslaughter.

Mayfield was accused of driving others to the scene to avenge the shooting of a gang member. Bugg, a high school basketball player who dreamed of being in the WNBA, and her 15-year-old friend were shot in front of a fried chicken takeout in Paterson.

Two men are serving prison terms in the case and several others are awaiting trial.
