E. Maxine Garber

COLUMBUS

Maxine Garber, age 89, of Columbus, passed away at 8:15 pm on Thursday, January 25, 2018 at her home. She was born May 5, 1928 in Miami County, Indiana to the late Chester and Phebe Hileman. She married Lyle D. Garber on November 14, 1948.

Maxine was retired from Kiel Brothers Oil where she worked as a bookkeeper. Maxine is survived by her children, Rebecca (Edmund) Crabb of Lowell, Indiana; Diane (Mark) Stanley of Rushville, Indiana; Gary (Debbie) Garber of Columbus, Indiana; Phil (Sunny Lee) Garber of Naples, Florida; and Denny (Lynda) Garber of Columbus, Indiana; twelve grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Lyle D. Garber; her parents; three brothers: Dean, Francis, and Robert Hileman; and a sister, Mary L. Richter.

Maxine was a member of Petersville United Methodist Church in Petersville, Indiana. She volunteered in the Columbus Regional Hospital gift shop and was an avid reader.

A funeral service for Maxine will be held on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at 1 pm at Myers-Reed Chapel. Entombment will follow at the Garland Brook Mausoleum. Friends may call from 11 am to service time Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in Maxine’s name may be made to Petersville United Methodist Church or Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
