ROCKVILLE, Md. — Authorities say the wife of a man convicted in the killings of two teens found dead in a car in the Maryland suburbs of Washington has been charged with photographing a confidential witness as she testified against her husband.

Twenty-one-year-old Kara Yanez was charged with retaliating against a witness, a misdemeanor, after allegedly taking several photos of a female informant earlier this month during the trial of 26-year-old Jose Canales-Yanez.

Canales-Yanez was convicted of first-degree murder in the killings of Shadi Najjar and Artem Ziberov, who were fatally shot the night before their high school graduation.

Prosecutors said the victims were shot after Najjar stole marijuana from Canales-Yanez’s wife during a drug deal.

A trial for Kara Yanez is scheduled for March 8. Her husband faces sentencing March 28.
