SANTA MARGARITA, Calif. — San Luis Obispo County sheriff’s detectives are investigating the deaths of two people found in a rural home in remote California Valley east of Santa Margarita.
The Sheriff’s Office received a report of a possible deceased person Monday and when deputies and state game wardens arrived they found two people dead.
Sheriff’s Cmdr. Brian Hascall tells KSBY the people appeared to have been dead for more than a day. He says it appears gunfire was involved but detectives are still trying to figure out exactly how the deaths occurred.
Hascall says homicides are infrequent in the area due to sparse population but there have been increased calls due to marijuana growing.
Marijuana grows were permitted in California Valley last year but as of Jan. 1 a new ordinance bans grows.
