NEW YORK — Authorities say a shootout involving police and suspects in Rochester, New York is linked to an investigation into a major drug trafficking ring.
WHEC reports that two of the suspects were wounded — one seriously — when the gunfire erupted late Monday morning.
Officers from four different police agencies returned fire. No law enforcers were hurt.
U.S. Attorney James Kennedy Jr. says eight people were facing drug-related charges as of Monday night.
Kennedy says officers seized $600,000, six assault rifles and two loaded handguns as well as cocaine, heroin and fentanyl.
He says the investigation, which involves drug shipments originating in Puerto Rico, dates back to September.
