EASLEY, S.C. — Police say a mother has been arrested after her 3-year-old child was found walking down a South Carolina street alone and would not talk to officers.

Easley police said the girl was found unharmed Monday, but they could not get her to talk, even give her name.

Authorities say they checked homes in the area, then posted the girl’s picture on Facebook and placed calls to all the houses in the city after no one reported a child missing for nearly an hour.

Police said in a statement that investigators determined 23-year-old Teaunna Gantt was the child’s mother and had left her alone in a home.

Gantt is charged with illegal conduct toward a child. Records did not indicate if she had a lawyer.
