Darleena M. Hockersmith

GREENSBURG

Darleena M. Hockersmith, 71, of Greensburg, passed away at 10:26 a.m. on Monday, January 29, 2018 at Schneck Medical Center in Seymour.

She was born on August 23, 1946 in Columbus, the daughter of Paul E. and Gladys I. (Atherton) Hoy.

She lived most of her life in Decatur County except for the six years she lived in Florida.

Darleena graduated on June 16, 1965 from Tarpon Springs High School in Florida.

She was a beautician in Florida and Indiana and was a Master Cosmetologist.

She attended Rockcreek Baptist Church and she was a Christian and liked to witness to people about Jesus Christ and had a tract ministry.

She was a member of the Greensburg American Legion Auxiliary No. 129, Hartsville Eastern Star No. 550 and had been a Den Mother to Cub Scout Pack No. 587.

She enjoyed gardening, flowers, candle-making, bird watching, writing cards and sending letters.

She married William Joe Hockersmith in Hope on July 27, 1969 and he survives.

Other survivors include her daughter, Gladys Jane (Thomas) George of Scipio, her son, John Paul Hockersmith of Westport; her sisters, Marlieta Lassiter of New Port Richey, Florida and Linda (Mark) Waddell of North Palm Beach, Florida; her brother, Larry (Patricia) Hoy of Waynesville, Georgia; her six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Paul C. and Darrel Hoy.

The funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Friday, February 2, 2018 at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport with Rev. Steve and Rev. Judy Malone officiating. Burial will follow at the Mount Aerie Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held on Thursday, February 1, 2018 from 4 until 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Rockcreek Baptist Church, Greensburg Ladies Auxiliary No. 129 or Gideon Memorial Bible Program.
