GLENS FALLS, N.Y. — Joe Girard III of Glens Falls High School has become the highest scoring boys player in New York state history.
Girard, a 6-foot-1 junior guard, eclipsed Lance Stephenson’s state career mark of 2,946 points on Tuesday night, matching his season low with 44 points. Averaging 50.1 points a game, Girard has 2,952 career points.
Stephenson played at Abraham Lincoln High School in Brooklyn and now plays for the NBA’s Indiana Pacers.
Girard has offers from several schools, including Michigan, Oklahoma, Boston College, Penn State and Washington.
Former St. Johnsville girls star Caryn Schoff holds the overall state record. She scored 3,548 career points and led St. Johnsville to the New York State Public High School Class D championship three straight times (1992-94).
