CLIFTON, N.J. — New Jersey police say a driver unsuccessfully attempted to flee the scene after he crashed his car into a house in Clifton.

The white Audi hit the stairs of the Clifton house around 5 p.m. Wednesday, damaging the stairs but leaving the rest of the home apparently unscathed. Clifton police detective Lt. Robert Bracken confirmed to the Record that the suspect was in custody but could not provide further information.

Local resident Rachel Motyl says she saw the car jump the curb and hit the house. She was driving by and had to stop her vehicle to be sure the car did not hit her.
