Two taken into custody after suspicious vehicle call

Bartholomew County Sheriff’s deputies made an arrest after checking out a report of suspicious people in a vehicle at the Interstate 65 rest park.

Deputy Sgt. Kris Weisner went to the area and found two people and the vehicle in the southbound rest park, deputies said.

Weisner made contact with Daniel S. Shuffitt, 36, Columbus and Sarah O. Callon, 27, Franklin, and learned that both had warrants out for their arrest, deputies said.

Assisted by Indiana State Troopers Jacob Tolle and Derrik Eggers, Shuffitt and Callon were arrested, deputies said. Tolle saw drug-related paraphernalia on the drivers-side floorboard and K9 Bolt alerted to narcotics inside the vehicle, deputies said.

Shuffitt told officers he was not feeling well and he was transported by ambulance to Columbus Regional Hospital, deputies said.

Callon was taken to the Bartholomew County Jail for the Bartholomew County warrant. She is being held there in lieu of $5,000 bond, jail officials said.
