GILA BEND, Ariz. — Maricopa County sheriff’s deputies say one person was shot and another remains missing near Gila Bend.

Authorities say deputies were called about a shooting on Interstate 8 on Thursday night.

They found the male caller with a gunshot wound to the leg.

According to the victim, the shooting occurred while he and a friend were walking through the desert. They became separated after the shooting.

While searching for the friend, deputies found a third person in the group who was then detained.

Sheriff’s spokeswoman Adella Laredo-Tarango says deputies were continuing the search Friday.

No other details were released.

The investigation remains ongoing.
