BURLINGTON, Vt. — A former Vermont police officer accused of injuring a student during one of his classes has pleaded not guilty.
Vermont State Police say 52-year-old David Scibek, of Colchester, used a pressure-point technique on a 16-year-old female student in November, causing her to fall and hit her back on a cabinet. The Burlington Free Press reports the student later sought medical treatment for pain.
The former police officer, who is a criminal justice instructor for Burlington Technical Center, pleaded not guilty Thursday to simple assault charges.
Scibek says he was attempting to demonstrate a technique for students in class, and accused the girl of “manipulating the environment.” He has been placed on paid administrative leave.
If convicted, Scibek faces a maximum of one year in prison and a $1,000 fine.
