RUTLAND, Vt. — Rutland officials say they will sell a city home to Green Mountain Power under a plan for the utility to help publicize the city.

The Board of Aldermen agreed Monday to sell the home for $1 to GMP. The Rutland Herald reports GMP plans to demolish the house and build a new, energy efficient home — and then give it away in a promotion for Rutland.

The three-story, 2,000-square-foot house sits on about a quarter-acre, and it came to the city through a tax sale.

GMP officials came to the city in 2017 with a tentative plan to redevelop the property and in December they asked to take the project to its next steps.
