Leon O. “Lonnie” Jenkins, 81, passed from this life Monday, February 5, 2018 at Columbus Regional Hospital.

Leon was born in Columbus on March 14, 1936 and graduated from Columbus High School in 1955.

He would have celebrated 60 years of marriage with his wife, Carolyn Jean Jenkins, on March 2. She survives.

He retired from Renner Motors in 2000. Leon loved cars and boating. He continued selling cars at Mueller Auto Sales after retirement and worked many years prior to Renner at Dell Brothers clothing store.

Leon had a passion for NASCAR, animals and dancing to the song, “Rocky Top.” He was involved in Saddle Club in his youth, Moose Lodge and was a life member of the local Elks Club.

He was a member of First Christian Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Dessa Jenkins.

Leon is survived by his wife, Carolyn Jean Jenkins; daughter, Dawn (Mark) Long of California, sons Michael (Julie) Jenkins of Sellersburg and Matthew (Cheryl) Jenkins of Trafalgar; grandchildren, Kristen and Christopher Long of California, Stephanie Jenkins of Alaska, Elizabeth Guilfoyle of Florida, and Laura Jenkins of New Albany; and a sister, Betty Miller of Columbus.

Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at Myers-Reed Chapel. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Myers-Reed.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, First Christian Church or the Bartholomew County Humane Society.
