Two men were arrested after a high-speed chase south of Franklin on Monday afternoon.

Justin Malone, 42, of Columbus, was arrested on a warrant and charges of resisting law enforcement in a fleeing vehicle, resisting law enforcement, leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving and possession of paraphernalia. Peter Lankey, 41, of Columbus, was arrested on a charge of resisting law enforcement.

A deputy driving south on U.S. 31 near County Road 150S saw a car driven by Malone swerving out of its lane multiple times around 2:15 p.m., a Johnson County Sheriff’s Office report said.

The deputy stopped the vehicle, but Malone drove off again at a high speed, the report said. Malone turned into a church parking and crashed into a nearby yard, and he and Lankey ran, the report said.

Deputies caught up to Lankey, and a police dog was called to help search for Malone, who also was found by deputies. Both men were arrested.

Lankey, 1315 1/2 Sycamore St., and Malone, 8767 W. 300 S., were taken to the Johnson County jail. Malone was held on $4,400 bond. Lankey was held on $2,000 bond.
