Nick South, Columbus East junior wrestler

South won all three of his matches, including the final two by technical fall, to claim the 160-pound title in Saturday’s Jeffersonville Regional and help lead the Olympians to the team title.

His performance last week: “I feel like I wrestled all right — a little bit rough on the technique, but it got the job done.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “Nothing special, just worry about the couple of matches before so I’m ready to wrestle.”

Favorite drink: “Water”

Favorite food: “Pizza”

Favorite book: “The Great Gatsby”

Favorite class: “Weights”

Role model: “Tyron Whoodley (UFC fighter)”

Best advice: “(Coach Chris Cooper) always tells us to get 1 percent better every day.”

Athletics goal: “Right now, to win state for sure. Win semistate first and then state. “

If you could travel anywhere: “Las Vegas. It’s really fun. There’s a lot of people, a lot of stuff to do.”

Maggie Gregory, Columbus East senior diver

Gregory set a school record with 351.50 points to win the diving competition in Saturday’s Columbus North Sectional and lead the Olympians to a fifth-place team finish.

Her performance last week: “There were a few dives that I wish I would have performed better, but overall, I was pretty happy with how it came out.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “The day before, I just run through my list of all 11 dives.”

Favorite drink: “Water”

Favorite food: “Pineapple”

Favorite book: “Divergent”

Favorite class: “Calculus”

Role model: “My (Indiana International School of Diving club) diving coach, David McKown.”

Best advice: “To focus on my personal best and not compare myself to others.”

Athletics goal: “To do well in college (at Wagner) and continue to progress as a diver.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Probably Hawaii, because of all the opportunities and all the different things you can see there.”
