MADRID — Deportivo La Coruna says veteran Ghanaian midfielder Sulley Muntari will start a trial period with the Spanish club from Friday.

The 33-year-old Muntari will be evaluated by new coach Clarence Seedorf.

Muntari played alongside Seedorf at AC Milan and was also coached by the Netherlands great when he took over Milan in 2014.

Muntari attracted headlines last season after being initially banned for protesting racism in Italy. Muntari said he was treated like a “criminal” after being shown two yellow cards in a protest during a Serie A game while with Pescara.

Muntari’s previous clubs include Udinese, Inter Milan, Portsmouth and Sunderland.

Deportivo is 18th in the 20-team Spanish league and next plays Real Betis on Monday.
