OGDEN, Utah — A judge considering whether an Ogden couple should stand trial in the death of their 3-year-old daughter has been told that police found evidence of multiple injuries and that the child appeared severely underweight.

The preliminary hearing for 25-year-old Miller Costello and 23-year-old Brenda Emile in the July death of Angelina Costello began Friday in state District Court and will continue Monday.

Police went to the family home after receiving a report of a child unconscious and not breathing.

A detective testified that an autopsy conducted at the state Medical Examiner’s Office found multiple burns, cuts and bruises, and prosecutor Christopher Shay said the girl had the weight of a 3-month-old, not a 3-year-old.

Both parents are accused of aggravated murder. They’re being held without bail at Weber County Jail.
