Martha S. Rager, 86, of Columbus, passed from this life at 9:09 a.m. Friday, February 9, 2018 at her home.
Mrs. Rager was born November 9, 1931, in Seymour, Indiana, the daughter of Maurice and Ruth Blumer Browning. She married Richard E. Rager January 3, 1954. He preceded her in death July 26, 2005.
Mrs. Rager was a 1949 graduate of Shields High School in Seymour where she was a member of the Girls Ensemble which was the first choral group from Indiana to perform on national or local television.
Mrs. Rager was an administrative assistant at Sandcrest Family Medicine, retiring after 20 years of service.
She was a faithful member of Petersville United Methodist Church where she sang in the church choir and was a member of The Trio. She also enjoyed membership in Tri Kappa Sorority.
Mrs. Rager was an artist and enjoyed painting and she loved to play the piano.
Mrs. Rager is survived by her daughter, Beth (Ray) Sheldon of Elizabethtown, Indiana; grandchildren, Jennifer (Matt) Hohnstreiter of Seymour, Indiana and Jonathan (Mary) Sheldon of Beech Grove, Indiana; great-grandchildren, Megan and Logan Hohnstreiter; a brother, John (Darlene) Browning of Frankton, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Rager was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard; a son, Richard Scott Rager; and brothers, Robert and Richard Browning.
The funeral will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with the Reverend Stormy Scherer-Berry officiating.
Family and friends may gather for visitation from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Rager will be laid to rest next to her husband at Garland Brook Cemetery.
