North wins Connersville Invitational

CONNERSVILLE — Claire Thompson won two individual events and the all-around competition Saturday to lead the fourth-ranked Columbus North gymnasts to the Connersville Invitational title.

The Bull Dogs racked up a 110.775. Northwestern finished second with 109.175, and host Connersville was third at 101.925.

Thompson won the bars (9.75) and beam (9.7) and finished second on the vault (9.45) and third on the floor (9.375) in totaling a 38.275 in the all-around. Sami Heathcote took second on the bars (9.2) and floor (9.55), third on the beam (9.05) and seventh on the vault (8.95) on her way to a third-place all-around finish with a 36.75.

Also for North, Alayne Davis tied for fifth on the bars (8.775), Emma Cooper finished sixth on the vault (9.125), Kaitlyn Calandro tied for sixth on the beam (8.725), Ashley Niebrugge took seventh on the floor (9.125) and Tova Edwards tied for 10th on the vault (8.7).

BOYS BASKETBALL

Crusaders down Washington Catholic

 

WASHINGTON — C.J. Reed hit a school-record 10 3-pointers and scored 33 points Saturday to lead Columbus Christian to a 67-51 victory at Washington Catholic.

The Crusaders (14-18) went 8 of 15 from 3-point range in the first half in building a 34-23 lead. Conner Emily finished with 12 points.

Columbus Christian was playing its fourth game in six days to close the regular season, and the Crusaders won all four. They’ll host the ISCAA South Regional on Friday and Saturday.

“It’s a long week, and I’m glad we have some time off now to rest,” Columbus Christian coach Kevin Roth said. “We’re starting to come together as a team, and it’s a good time to do so heading into our regional.”

Eagles edge Mitchell

Brown County trailed by two going into the fourth quarter Saturday before rallying for a 53-51 win against Mitchell.

Isaiah Keefauver led the Eagles (3-16) with 21 points. Ezra Scully and Noah Carter each added 11.

Friday night, Scully scored 36 points, but Brown County fell 76-64 at Northview.

Jeffersonville tops Panthers in HHC contest

 

NORTH VERNON — Jeffersonville ran out to a 49-35 halftime lead and went on to hand Jennings County an 87-65 Hoosier Hills Conference loss on Saturday.

Travis Wilson led the Panthers (5-15, 0-7) with 18 points, 10 rebounds and three steals. Weston Miller added 11 points.
