TULSA, Okla. — A police department assistant chief in eastern Oklahoma has suffered multiple neck injuries after he was ejected from his pickup truck during a rollover on Sunday.
Haskell County Sheriff Tim Turner wrote in a Facebook post Sunday that Checotah Police Department Assistant Chief Justin Durrett is stable in unknown condition and awaiting surgery.
Tulsa World reports that the Oklahoma Highway Patrol says the 35-year-old lost control of his vehicle for unknown reasons and the car went off the side of a roadway Sunday morning. The pickup truck rolled once and Durrett was ejected from the vehicle.
Turner says a deputy pulled up to the single-vehicle crash and found Durrett trapped underneath the truck.
He says Durrett is a 13-year police department veteran and a father of two children. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
