CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — An Iowa City man who escaped last year from an Iowa work release facility in Cedar Rapids has been sentenced to 18 months in federal prison.

Federal prosecutors say 41-year-old Gabriel Mangum was sentenced Monday in federal court after pleading guilty in August to one count of escape.

Authorities say Mangum was a federal prisoner and being held at the Gerald Hinzman Center in Cedar Rapids when he left for work on June 20 and did not return. Mangum was arrested by the U.S. Marshal Service on July 12.
