SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Authorities say a South Carolina man stabbed a woman and evaded a SWAT team search for several hours.

Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Kevin Bobo tells the Spartanburg Herald-Journal that 40-year-old Bobby Ray Brown II was finally arrested late Sunday night.

Deputies responding to the scene of a car accident that afternoon found a female driver had been stabbed in the abdomen, causing the crash. She identified Brown as her assailant.

Deputies say a SWAT team surrounded a house Brown was seen entering, but they didn’t find him when they forced entry. He was arrested without incident in Woodruff after several tips.

The victim underwent surgery and authorities say her prognosis is good.

Brown is charged with attempted murder and a weapons offense. It’s unclear if he has a lawyer.
