WORCESTER, Mass. — A Massachusetts man is accused of killing a man whose body was found beaten inside his burning home.

The Telegram & Gazette reports 29-year-old Brayan Flores was charged with first-degree murder in the death of 53-year-old David Carlson.

Police found Carlson’s body on July 25 after firefighters extinguished a blaze at his Worcester home. An autopsy found he died of blunt force trauma to the head and neck. Police say Flores beat him with a large wooden dowel.

Prosecutors say the men were in a dating relationship.

A not guilty plea was entered on Flores’ behalf at an arraignment Tuesday. He has been in custody since an Aug. 29 hearing.
