Salem man arrested on charges of sexual misconduct with local teen

WASHINGTON COUNTY — Indiana State Police detectives arrested a Salem man on two counts of sexual misconduct with a minor, who was identified as a 14-year-old from Bartholomew County.

Ryan A. Allen, 22, Salem, was arrested Wednesday morning after a combined investigation by the state police and the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department, state police said. They were investigating a report of a 14-year-old who was reported missing from her Bartholomew County home Saturday who returned home on Sunday, police said.

Police believe she ran away from home to meet Allen, who had made arrangements to meet the teen via social media. After taking the teen to Salem and spending the night with her, Allen returned her home the next day, police said.

When she returned home, sheriff’s deputies contacted the Indiana State Police post at Sellersburg to assist them in the Washington County investigation. During that investigation, police said Allen knew the girl was 14 years old.

Allen is being held in the Washington County Jail awaiting a court appearance, police said.
