MESA, Ariz. — Mesa police say a man’s surrender ended a standoff that followed an exchange of gunfire.

Police say the incident began early Thursday morning when residents spotted a man prohibited from being at a home because of an order of protection.

Police say the neighbors called police and that there was an exchange of gunfire when officers arrived.

The man then barricaded himself inside the home but surrendered several hours later.

No injuries were reported.

The man’s identity was not released.

Police say some neighbors were evacuated during the standoff while other area residents were told to stay inside their homes.

The incident occurred near Stapley Drive and McKellips Road.
