Area farmer speaks to federal ag secretary

Two Decatur County residents attended the American Farm Bureau Federation’s 99th national convention in Tennessee, one of whom had a chance to speak with the U.S. secretary of agriculture.

Decatur County Farm Bureau members President Patty Lange Fischer and Gary Fischer attended the convention in Nashville in January.

Gary, a Decatur County farmer and a grain and feed ingredients trader for FCStone Merchant Services, spoke with AFBF President Zippy Duvall and Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue. He spoke with Duvall about the farm bill and its purpose regarding food security for the U.S. population, and he talked to Perdue about needed repairs on the Ohio River lock and dam system.

Lange Fischer served as an Indiana Farm Bureau delegate to the AFBF business session.
