Columbus man arrested on warrants, drug charges

Columbus police sent to a local restaurant about a suspicious person arrested a man on five warrants and other charges.

Police were sent to the 2600 block of Jonathan Moore Pike at 2:50 a.m. Thursday about a suspicious person in the restaurant restroom, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

Officers spoke to the man who initially gave a false name, but was later identified as Chawn T. Coomer, 32, of 3349 McCullough Lane, Harris said. Police determined he was wanted on five Bartholomew County warrants.

Coomer attempted to pull away from officers as they arrested him, but he was handcuffed a short time later, Harris said. When Coomer was searched, officers found two syringes in his pants pockets, Harris said.

Coomer was arrested on the warrants and preliminary charges of resisting law enforcement, possession of a legend drug-injection device and false informing.

He was being held in lieu of $70,750 bond at the Bartholomew County Jail, jail officials said.
