The month became the snowiest February in 14 years as 6 more inches of snow fell, closing schools, government and businesses and making Interstate 65 “about as treacherous as it has ever been” according to State Police Lt. Ed Reuter.

A thunderous explosion triggered by an accidental shotgun blast ripped through Thompson Sporting Goods at Third Street and Vollmer Avenue, killing one man and seriously burning a second in the flames that followed.
