Letter: Legalizing abortion start of downward spiral

On the same day 14 high school students and three faculty members lost their lives in Parkland, Florida, Planned Parenthood in Bloomington was performing abortions.

The latest statistics from the Indiana Department of Health, from 2016, show 1,106 abortions were performed that year at this facility. That is an average of 21 unborn infants losing their lives every Thursday. Planned Parenthood, according to its annual report, performs over 300,000 abortions every year nationwide.

We turn on the evening news to hear of senseless homicides in our cities on an almost daily basis. Many of our children spend hours playing video games depicting violent deaths.

Have we, as a nation, created a culture of death? When did this downward moral spiral begin? Was Jan. 22, 1973, the day abortion was legalized, also the day we abandoned the sanctity of life?
